Yin & Restorative Yoga Wollongong

yiin yoga classes wollongong Yin Yoga is a relaxing, passive form of yoga.


You don't need any yoga experience and you don't need to be flexible.  It is accessible for everyone*(see below) who wants to relax, stretch and calm the mind.

These classes use special props such as bolsters, blocks & blankets to make the yoga poses relaxing and passive, enabling you to stay in the pose for up to 5 minutes.  It sounds like a lot but holding the poses, passively, for a longer period of time allows for a deeper stretch and a very calm bodymind.

No downward dogs, headstands, demanding or difficult postures in these sessions. In yin poses, students are encouraged to find for a mild, safe & deep stretch. This is sometimes referred to as "Goldilocks yoga" i.e. not too much, not too little, just right.

How does it work?

Yin yoga targets the connective tissue, or fascia, that surrounds the joint capsules and in fact every cell of the body.  In these classes we work particularly with the ligaments, bones and joints of the body  -  with an emphasis on hips, hamstrings, shoulders and spine.  These tissues are very tough and can get hard and dry over time.  Good news is that with gentle but continual pressure they slowly become pliable and fluidic again enabling free, subtle joints.

Yin and Restorative Timetable

  • Mondays 10.45am (Physio Remedial)
  • Wednesdays 9.30am (Restorative)
  • Thursdays 5.15pm (Yin)
  • Fridays at 5.45pm (Yin)

Yin Yoga classes may not be approprite during pregnancy, those with hypermobility issues and certain joint problems. In these cases Restorative Yoga or modified Yin classes may be more appropriate. Please call the Wellness Centre 42263777 before attanding these classes if unsure.
